BROOMFIELD ACADEMY STUDENTS SCORE MORE THAN TWO YEARS ABOVE GRADE LEVEL ON THE STANFORD ACHIEVEMENT TEST
Broomfield, CO (November 26, 2007) – Broomfield Academy, a private junior kindergarten and elementary school dedicated to providing an individualized high-quality and well-rounded education for its students, is proud to announce outstanding Stanford Achievement Test results from the 2006 – 2007 school year.
The Broomfield Academy Average Score Is More Than Two Years Above Grade Level
Dr. Vanessa Ewing, Principal, attributes the results – which have been consistently achieved – to the school’s unique environment, one that focuses on academic excellence through the development and implementation of individual learning plans for each student, small classes sizes (the average teacher-to-student ratio is 1:9) and a well-rounded curriculum that includes world language, music, art and physical education. “While some students score at grade level on some subjects, most of our students score two, three, four or even five years above grade level in other subjects. In the end, assuring that each student receives an outstanding education is our main goal,” comments Ewing.
The Stanford Achievement Test is one of the leading national standardized achievement tests and is widely used by U.S. school districts to assess the academic knowledge of elementary and secondary school students.
Broomfield Academy chooses to administer the Stanford Achievement Test, rather than the CSAP (Colorado Student Assessment Program) for two reasons:
- The CSAP is often referred to as “high stakes” testing because results often determine funding. As a result, many schools spend a considerable part of the school year preparing for the CSAP test, often to the detriment of other curricula such as world language, art and music – subjects that don’t appear on the CSAP.
- Additionally, many parents, teachers and students cite significant stress during the CSAP testing period, which can last as long as three weeks. By contrast, the Stanford Achievement Test is administered for one to two hours per day over a one-week period.
“The Stanford Achievement Test tells us how we are doing,” says Dr. Ewing, “so that we can focus our teacher training and curricula development efforts to ensure that our programs meet the needs and challenge each and every one of our students.”
"We could not be more pleased with our daughter's experience at Broomfield Academy,” says Beth Perez, whose daughter Christina attends kindergarten. “Her reading, writing, and math skills have improved dramatically in just a few short months. She is much more confident in her abilities and has developed a strong intellectual curiosity about the world around her. We've been so impressed with the level of attention and warmth demonstrated by the staff and administration at the school. It is wonderful to see our daughter so excited to go to school each day!"
Broomfield Academy offers many other distinctive benefits. With a clear focus on academic excellence, the school puts a spotlight on character development, which includes a “core virtue of the month” program, along with significant community service and charitable involvement. Each class selects and raises funds for a service project or charity during the school year – such as The March of Dimes, Toys for Tots or a local food or book drive.
“We are proud to report outstanding Stanford Achievement Test results” said Dr. Ewing “but we are equally proud that we provide a well-rounded education with a strong focus on the arts. All of our students learn two foreign languages (Spanish and Mandarin), art, world music (ethnomusicology) and physical education. These programs, combined with our advanced, individualized curriculum, give each of our students the foundation they need to achieve their full potential. The Stanford Achievement Test results confirm that we are meeting or exceeding our goals in providing a top quality education to our students.”
