Dr. Vanessa Ewing - Past Principal & Education Advisor

Dr. Vanessa Ewing is the past Principal of Broomfield Academy and serves part-time as an education advisor. She assists the administration with open houses and tours, gives community talks and assists with special programs. She also works with the Principal on a variety of educational and curricular projects and with training related to differentiation and individualized education. During her tenure as Principal, Dr. Ewing expanded programs and offerings in the lower grades and created a global curricular focus through the addition of world music programming and the expansion of world language programs. She created and added a variety of special programs for the Broomfield school community, including Junior Achievement, Friday Family Fun Nights and the School Community Book Club. She was also instrumental in providing public leadership for the school, already providing an outstanding education for exceptional, accelerated and creative children, during a successful governance transition and a name change.

Dr. Ewing has taught preschool, kindergarten, and middle school as well as gifted and special education to children ages four to eighteen. For the past decade, she has also taught gifted education, teacher education and psychology courses to undergraduate and graduate college students throughout Colorado. Dr. Ewing lived in Minnesota until she began her graduate work in Colorado. Since moving to Colorado, she has enjoyed hiking, camping and skiing. Her favorite children's books are Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo.

She has a PhD in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Individual Differences in Cognition from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Leadership from the University of Colorado. Her areas of specialization include differentiation, working with children identified as gifted and working with children with exceptionalities. Her certifications include a State of Colorado Principal Licensure, a Teacher Licensure in Special Education and Elementary Education, a Large Center Director Qualification and an Early Childhood Professional Credential.

She has published a number of articles, many of which are posted on the articles and links page of the school website. Dr. Ewing also speaks at a variety of local schools and teacher preparation programs on topics such as Differentiation, Gifted Education, Twice-Exceptional Students and Literacy Strategies in Early Childhood Programs.
