Lia Simonds - Summer Camp, Extended-day and Substitute Teacher

Lia Simonds teaches in the Broomfield Academy summer camp and extended-day programs. She also substitute teaches in Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten. She holds a B.A. in American Culture from Vassar College, where she focused on issues of child development—specifically the importance of play—as well as the socioeconomic inequalities inherent in our educational system. Her undergraduate thesis, "Reconstructing a Place for Free Play in Consumer Culture," combines her work in child development with her work in urban studies and sociology. Throughout college, Ms. Lia has worked extensively with disadvantaged youth in both recreational and educational environments. Most recently, Ms. Lia was a preschool teacher and the extended-day instructor at the Boulder Jewish Day School. She moved from her hometown, New York City last summer and falls in love with the mountains of Colorado more each day. Ms. Lia enjoys running, hiking with friends, and listening to the babbling of Boulder Creek.
